STRATEGIC PLAN – METH
Meth Watc h Program

Methamphetamine

The Eaton County Methamphetamine Committee is a sub-committee of the Eaton County Substance Abuse Advisory Group (ECSAAG) which is a multi-collaborative effort between agencies and organizations such as human service agencies, law enforcement, educational, and the health department serving Eaton County’s residents. This coalition which formed in Fall 2005, is working together to make data driven decisions for programming to address methamphetamine problem in Eaton County, Michigan.

The goal of the Eaton County Methamphetamine Committee is that by 2009, methamphetamine availability and use will be reduced in Eaton County as measured by social indicator proxy measures (e.g. arrests for methamphetamine production, methamphetamine lab seizures, and methamphetamine treatment admissions). Each year, the committee, working in tangent with ECSAAG has objectives it sets forth to meet this goal.

The Eaton County Methamphetamine Committee has partnered with Michigan Meth Watch and has participated in Meth Watch activities for raising retailer and community awareness about methamphetamine. The Michigan Meth Watch Program is a collaborative initiative that began in 1997 to reduce Methamphetamine (Meth) lab activity by making the theft or purchase of precurser products (Meth ingredients) more difficult. Since inception, it has grown from a core group of retailers using signage, educating employees, and reporting suspicious activity, to a broad membership of businesses linked together to prevent theft, fraud, and abuse of legal products used in the manufacture of Meth. Our group consists of grocery markets,Meth Watch drug stores, convenience stores, auto parts stores, pet/farming supply stores, banks, credit unions, security firms, property managers, and storage facilities. The strong community partnerships and proactive involvement of business owners and citizens have made this prevention program a success throughout the state of Michigan.
